I’m glad to be back and fully rested after such an exhausting trip. All of us got a little sick towards the end from lack of sleep and general bodily abuse. Rites of Thy Degringolade "an ode to sin" CD Anti-Goth 032 This is the second full-length album from Rites of Thy Degringolade, a Canadian group that sprung from the ashes of Sacramentary Abolishment. They play chaotic, technical black/death metal in the Canadian tradition of Voivod, Disciples of Power, and a touch of Blasphemy. The drums are the most notable aspect of this album. They're all over the place - pounding, slamming, marking time only to spin off into wild improvisational passages. This makes sense, considering that the central member of this band, Paulus, is also the drummer. Still, the guitar and bass are equally punishing. Vocals are vomited force with ferocious hatred. The songwriting on this album is chaotic yet still coherent and structured. The technical skill on display here is matched only by the unrelenting nature of the music. This album rarely gives the listener a break, and when it does, it immediately takes off on another attack. This constancy makes for an immersive listening experience, as do the lyrics, which are much more thoughtful than the usual fare. Witches Hammer "stretching into infinity" LP Anti-Goth 036 Witches Hammer, the bastard sons of Canadian Speed Metal, is back with a final strike of authentic speed metal from the 80's. This LP compiles their ultra rare MLP from 1988 as well as an unreleased studio session from the same year. This material is a bit more polished compared to the demo material released on the Canadian Speed Metal LP some years back, but don't expect to hear any fun thrash like Anthrash. Witches Hammer can be compared to the likes of old Exciter, Sacrifice, Slayer, Razor, and the like. The 180 gram heavy vinyl is presented in gatefold jacket with printed innersleeve and poster. Abigail "tribute to sigh" 7" Anti-Goth 034 Abigail pays homage to their comrades in Sigh by covering two of their oldest songs, Desolation and Taste Defeat. These songs, recorded during their Ultimate Unholy Death studio session, are accompanied by none other than Mirai from Sigh on keyboards. Mirai being the mastermind behind Sigh's avant garde approach adds a unique spin on Abigail's interpretation of these tracks. News and Updates: -Midnight discography DLP will be done in early 2006. -Ares Kingdom is done recording their album and is busy putting the finishing mixing touches as I type this. The album will be uleashed in late December/early Jan. Expect nothing but well crafted Deathrash. -Proclamation from Spain will release their debut LP/CD on NWN as a split release with R. Forster’s new label. Proclamation plays bestial black death metal in the style of Impurity, Beherit, etc. -Nocturnal Graves from Australia will release an album on NWN in 2006. -Xibalba’s (Mex) debut album from 1994 will be pressed on DLP in 2006. It will include three bonus tracks from 1995. Gutteral Records will repress the CD in two weeks or less. -Terrorama will record a new promo very soon. -The Australian Martire has "signed" to NWN for their debut album. Expect nothing but bestial death metal in the old tradition. I also bought the remaining copies of their 7"s including the limited colored vinyl versions of Martire and Lucifer. -Reencarnacion layout material is all scanned and cleaned up. I still have to get the interviews translated before I start on the layout. -Warhate (WA)/Domini Inferi (Van) split 7" is coming along nicely. This should go to press after the Sabbat gig. -Metalion emailed me recently to tell me that Slayer Mag #20 is nearly done. I hope to get the master for this very soon.
